Earthquake in Japan: Magnitude 6 quake jolts East of Noda; no immediate casualties

An earthquake of magnitude 6 has jolted Japan right before the New Year at 11.26pm local time. According to USGS, the epicentre is 91 km east of Noda. The depth of the quake was recorded to be 19.3 km.There were no immediate records of casualties.Earlier, an earthquake of magnitude 3.4 also struck Leh, Ladakh, on New Year’s Eve at 7.35pm IST according to the National Seismology Centre.The latest earthquake in Japan follows another strong tremor that struck just weeks earlier. On December 12, a magnitude 6.7 quake hit the country, with its epicentre located about 130 km from Kuji city in Iwate prefecture on Honshu, as reported by the US Geological Survey.(This is a developing copy)
