Donald Trump vows to keep these AI models out of America, says no place for …

President Donald Trump has signed three executive orders focused on artificial intelligence (AI), vowing to prevent “woke AI” from being used by the federal government – all while positioning the US as an “AI export powerhouse.” Trump signed an executive order titled “PREVENTING WOKE AI IN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT”, suggesting that there’s no place for AI models “that sacrifice truthfulness.” This move is seen as extending the administration’s broader push against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives into the rapidly evolving field of AI.“While the Federal Government should be hesitant to regulate the functionality of AI models in the private marketplace, in the context of Federal procurement, it has the obligation not to procure models that sacrifice truthfulness and accuracy to ideological agendas,” according to the order published on the White House website. It also identifies DEI as one of the “most pervasive and destructive” ideologies to be excluded from AI models utilised by the government. The order asserts that large language models (LLMs) “shall be neutral, nonpartisan tools that do not manipulate responses in favor of ideological dogmas such as DEI.”
AI developers told to avoid embedding ideological judgements
The order further instructs developers to avoid intentionally embedding ideological judgments into an LLM’s outputs unless explicitly prompted by users. The administration believes that incorporating DEI into AI can lead to discriminatory outcomes, distort information regarding race and sex, and inject concepts like critical race theory, transgenderism, unconscious bias, intersectionality, and systemic racism.“DEI displaces the commitment to truth in favor of preferred outcomes and, as recent history illustrates, poses an existential threat to reliable AI,” the order states. While not providing specific examples, the order mentions past instances where major AI models allegedly altered the race or sex of historical figures in image generation – appears to be a reference to Google’s Gemini AI image generation feature, which faced backlash last year for “inaccuracies” in historical depictions.
