Dodgers manager Dave Roberts makes a bold prediction about Shohei Ohtani’s performance after embracing fatherhood

Dodgers’ two-way star Shohei Ohtani celebrated a milestone after embracing parenthood with his beloved wife, Mamiko Tanaka. Before adding dad responsibilities to his list, Ohtani’s performance went on to become the hotbed of discussion as both fans and MLB critics scratched their heads due to the lack of home runs from the Dodgers’ designated hitters’ end, and it became difficult to deal with the drought of home runs during MLB’s most talented athlete’s presence on the ground. Well, recently Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts made a bold prediction about Ohtani’s dad’s strength, which is directly connected with his performance.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts credits fatherhood for Shohei Ohtani’s recent feat against the Marlins
The recent home run against the Miami Marlins clearly proved that the Dodgers’ reputed designated hitter, Shohei Ohtani, is still here to shine. After embracing fatherhood for the first time with his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, Ohtani went on to hit his first home run during a recent clash between the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers, which helped them to secure a landslide victory against the Marlins with an overall score of 15-2.
The much-awaited long balls came after a drought from Ohtani’s end. During the post-game press conference, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts not only spoke about Shohei Ohtani’s new addition into his family but also made a clear prediction about his performance, which has a connection with his dad’s strength. He said-
“Now that he’s a father, we might see some 120 mph exit velocities off the bat.”
After enthralling the Dodgers fans with his much-awaited home run, Shohei Ohtani even spoke about how desperately he waited for this moment after becoming a father. During an interview via his interpreter Will Ireton, Ohtani said-
“It was a good home run to get back on the board for this game. I haven’t hit one since being a father, so it’s a really nice one to be able to do that.”
Despite being one of the most popular faces in MLB, connecting the Asian subcontinent with the US via his hard work and dedication, Dodgers’ two-way star likes to keep his personal life away from the media glare. Ohtani welcomed his daughter along with his wife Mamiko Tanaka earlier in April 2025. Back in 2024, Ohtani had revealed about his marriage with Mamiko Tanaka and has maintained a low profile on social media despite having a crazy fan following.
