Baseball is all set to make its official entry into the Olympics 2028, and Dodger Stadium has been selected as its opening ground. The Olympics 2028 season is welcoming tons of sports, most new and others as re-entries, causing a lot of excitement.
While the Dodger Stadium has been selected for the Summer Olympics, there are certain questions looming around. Will the game have players from MLB? Dodger Stadium as one of the official venues for the Summer Olympics 2028
On April 15, 2025, LA28, the Los Angeles’ official Olympic Games committee made the announcement that six venues have been selected for the Summer Olympics 2028. Amongst these is the Dodger Stadium that will host baseball.
It is well-known that baseball was merely a demonstration sport in the Olympics back in 1984 and 1988. It only converted into a medal sport from 1992 to 2008, after which baseball again made an appearance in 2020. It was the Dodger Stadium that had hosted the Olympics 44 years back, and when it is finally returning to LA, Dodger Stadium is the obvious choice.
Will MLB pause mid-season in 2028 during the Summer Olympics?
Though fans are excited about baseball’s entry into the Summer Olympics, the question of whether the upcoming Olympics will affect the 2028 MLB season still remains. Since MLB always starts after the Spring Training, the matches are bound to clash with that of the Summer Olympics.
Does this mean that MLB will be paused during the Olympic games? To date, MLB has never paused a game for any competition, let alone the Olympics. So, will the 2028 MLB schedule change? It remains to be seen.
Other sports entering the Summer Olympics
Apart from baseball, there are other sports as well that are either re-entering or will be showcased for the first time in the Olympics universe. Some of them include surfing, beach volleyball, squash, cricket, and triathlon.
The venue for each sport has already been decided, with Trestles Beach serving as the backdrop for surfing, cricket returning to the Olympics after 100 years with Fairgrounds being witness to the iconic return, squash will be played at Universal Studios lot, whereas beach volleyball will be shifted to the Long Beach. Long Beach will also serve as a venue for target shooting, sports climbing, coastal rowing, and marathon swimming.
When asked about the venue selection process, Reynold Hoover, the CEO of LA28, gave the statement, “Los Angeles is the epicenter of sports, culture, and entertainment, and every venue selected for the 2028 Games will provide athletes and fans the best possible experience.”
