Cops intensify identification drives, deport more than 30 Bangladeshis | Goa News
Panaji: DGP Alok Kumar on Thursday said that links of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh have been found in the Dona Paula and Mapusa dacoity cases. However, none of these immigrants were found to be residing in Goa, he said, as they entered the state, struck the houses, and then left Goa.On the heels of this, Kumar said the police have intensified the identification of other such immigrants present in Goa and has deported more than 30 so far.“There are definitely links in the Dona Paula and Mapusa incidents. They did not reside in the state. They came, struck, and went back. We have started a programme in this direction, and now the number of Bangladeshis deported from the state is much higher than in the last few years. It is our continuous effort to get them deported. More than 30 have been deported so far,” Kumar said.He said one person arrested for the Mapusa dacoity is in judicial custody, and that while the Dona Paula and Mapusa incidents appear to have common links, the Baina case does not seem to be linked to these two cases.Three similar dacoities took place at Dona Paula, Mapusa, and Baina over the last six months in Goa.At Baina, at least seven masked men entered the flat of Sagar Nayak, assaulted the occupants, and committed robbery. In April, 77-year-old Jaiprakash Dempo and his 71-year-old wife, Padmini, were tied to their bed by three robbers armed with daggers who broke into their residence at Dona Paula.
