Contract extension of President and GM of the New York Rangers comes a week after Rangers’ player Artemi Panarin’s alleged sexual assault case

Just a week back, on April 17, New York Rangers forward Artemi Panarin and Madison Square Garden Company, the owner of Rangers, paid financial settlements to a woman working for the team till August 2024 after she alleged Artemi Panarin had sexually assaulted her in a hotel room in December. The ex-employee alleged that Artemi Panarin took her phone and said he would return it only from his hotel room.
On April 19, 2025, Peter Baugh, New York Hockey Writer for The Athletic, shared on his official X platform, “Chris Drury said he doesn’t have a statement on the Artemi Panarin report from @KatieJStrang. He referred to the MSG statement: “The matter has been resolved.”
And now, after a week, comes the news of the contract extension of the President and General Manager of the New York Rangers, Chris Drury.

On May 5, 2021, Chris Drury joined the Rangers, and on April 24, 2025, Chris Drury signed a multi-year contract extension. Rangers fans don’t love this move.
One wrote, “Imagine sucking at your job and get rewarded for it. There’s hope for all.” Another wrote, “Okay rangers fans what team are we moving to?”
A third fan wrote, “RANGERS DOWNFALL BANGGGGGG”, a fourth fan wrote, “Didn’t they just have a horrific season with high expectations?” and a fifth fan wrote, “GMs get way more leash than coaches. I’ll never understand it.” Nobody looked happy with the New York Rangers news.

Even though the Rangers fans feel like it’s the end of the globe for the Rangers, Chris Drury has had a beautifully fulfilling past with the New York Rangers. And his past achievements speak for themselves.

  • The New York Rangers entered the Eastern Conference Final two times – in the 2021-2022 NHL season and 2023-2024 NHL season.

  • In the 2023-2024 NHL season, the New York Rangers won the Presidents’ Trophy for having 55 wins and 114 points – the best regular season record in the NHL.

  • Chris Drury has himself played for the New York Rangers for 12 NHL seasons – accumulating 255 goals, 360 assists and 615 points.

  • Drury was also the Rangers captain for three seasons, the 2008-2009 NHL season, the 2009-2010 NHL season, and the 2010-2011 NHL season.

With such a power-packed history in the resume, a contract extension was forthcoming for the President and General Manager of the New York Rangers, Chris Drury.
