Conrad hoists high-mast national flag in Tura

Shillong: CM Conrad Sangma hoisted a high-mast national flag at the PA Sangma Sports Complex in Tura, the headquarters of West Garo Hills district, on Nov 17. It is the second such flag in Meghalaya, the first one fluttering at Barik Point in Shillong.During the event, the CM announced plans to hoist similar flags in Jowai and all other district headquarters across the state.“The national flag is a symbol of our identity and symbolizes our unity, history, sovereignty, freedom, and values, and hoisting this high mast flag shows our respect and honour for our great nation India,” Conrad said after raising the tricolour.The CM also revealed that the second phase of the Tura Beautification Project would commence soon, with an allocation of Rs 16 crore for the enhancement of the Tura Bazar area. This phase will include the installation of street lights, pavement renovation, and measures to improve the overall facade of Tura Super Market.In the third phase, the beautification of the road from Araimile Junction to the end of PA Sangma Road will be undertaken. The “Paint My City” campaign will continue with the painting of buildings, boundary, and retaining walls, for which the CM solicited public cooperation.Additionally, Sangma said construction work for the additional secretariat at Dapokgre is progressing rapidly. “Next to the Meghalaya Public Service Commission Office building that was inaugurated last week, works are taking place at a rapid pace for the Convention Centre that will be an important venue to host small to medium scale events and gatherings,” he said. He also mentioned that an “important infrastructure” will be developed where the old Orchid Hotel was located in Dakopgre.“The first five-star hotel of Tura by the Hilton Group will be an important infrastructure, and we expect this hotel to be completed within 24 months,” he added.The CM urged the citizens of Tura town to cooperate and support the govt’s initiatives, particularly the beautification projects. “It is the responsibility of every citizen to keep Tura town clean, without which all the other development projects or infrastructure will be meaningless,” he said.
