Complete roof-top programme in SPDCL by March, 2026: Chief secretary Vijayanand | Vijayawada News
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Secretary K Vijayanand set March 2026 deadline for APSPDCL to complete one of the country’s largest targeted rooftop solar programmes – installation of 2 kW grid-connected systems for all 7.48 lakh technically feasible SC/ST domestic consumers in its jurisdiction. He said that it will help generate a combined capacity of 415 MW. Chairing a day-long review at Anantapur Collectorate, the chief secretary ordered that net meters be installed immediately after solar panels are fixed, with no scope for delay. He also directed APSPDCL to solarise 1.36 lakh agricultural pump sets (610 MW total) at the earliest under Component-C of PM-KUSUM scheme. In Anantapur district, authorities were told to accelerate land acquisition for 111 MW of feeder-level solar plants across 20 sites requiring 498 acres and to finish rooftop solar works for 17,870 households (35.7 MW) under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana by the same deadline. Making a major announcement, K Vijayanand said the State govt will provide free rooftop solar systems to 21 lakh BC households across Andhra Pradesh, taking the total beneficiary households under various free rooftop schemes to nearly 30 lakh. The chief secretary asked officials to fast-track establishment of electric vehicle charging stations under the newly launched PM E-Drive scheme and warned that all loss-reduction and infrastructure works sanctioned under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) must be completed within stipulated timelines without cost or time overrun. Before the review began, Chief Secretary K Vijayanand paid rich tributes to the architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar, on his 69th Mahaparinirvan Diwas by garlanding his portrait and recalled Babasaheb’s unparalleled contribution to nation-building and social justice.
