Chhattisgarh screens over 75 lakh citizens for diabetes and hypertension in seven months | Raipur News
RAIPUR: In the run-up to World Diabetes Day, the Chhattisgarh health department has highlighted the state’s extensive progress in screening citizens for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and hypertension. Over 38.6 lakh citizens have been screened for diabetes and 37.7 lakh for blood pressure between April and October 2025, according to data from the National NCD Portal. Out of these, 6.88 lakh citizens were identified with diabetes and 11.82 lakh with hypertension, who are now receiving treatment, counselling, and regular follow-up under the state’s integrated NCD care system. Marking the occasion, a state-level NCD screening camp was organised at Raipur Circuit House during a two-day state health review meeting chaired by Health Secretary Amit Kataria. The initiative aimed to raise awareness among health officials and staff about early detection, prevention, and the importance of regular health check-ups. During the camp, 110 health officers and employees underwent screening. Among them, 41 were found with high blood pressure and nine with elevated blood sugar levels. The camp was jointly organised by the directorate of health services and the Raipur district health team. Emphasising the importance of self-awareness in health management, Kataria said, “Healthy citizens are the foundation of a healthy state. Regular health check-ups and a balanced lifestyle are the best medicine one can adopt.” He urged officials to lead by example and motivate citizens at the field level to maintain balanced diets, exercise regularly, manage stress, and avoid substance use. Chhattisgarh has implemented a ‘screening to service’ model for the prevention and management of NCDs, ensuring seamless access to testing, medication, and counselling services from primary health centres to district hospitals. The health department’s core message on World Diabetes Day remains clear — “Be the guardian of your health, get screened regularly, and take a step towards a healthier life.”
