Chennai Accident: Man dead as speeding car crashes into tea shop near Teynampet | Chennai News

Chennai: A speeding car ploughed into a group pf people at a tea shop near Teynampet on Wednesday night, killing a 40-year-old man and injuring three others.
The deceased, I Babu, 40, from Nandanam, was seated on the pavement outside the tea shop. T Ritesh Bohara, 45, from Purasaiwalkam, S Vikram, 28, from Sowcarpet, and G Tharun Solanki, 31, from Sundar Mudali Street in Sowcarpet were injured in the accident.
Police said that the incident occurred when Abis Ahmed, 52, was driving a car on Anna Salai. He lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and rammed Babu, running him over. He died on the spot.
The car also hit three other men before coming to a halt.
Others at the tea shop alerted the Pondy Bazaar traffic investigation wing.
Police sent Babu’s body to Royapettah Govt Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Ritesh, who sustained a leg fracture, was sent to a private hospital on Greams Road, while Vikram and Solanki, who sustained shoulder and leg injuries, were taken to Royapettah Govt Hospital, where they are still undergoing treatment.
The driver, Abis Ahmed, who also sustained minor injuries, was sent to the hospital for treatment.
The Pondy Bazaar traffic investigation wing has registered a case for causing death by negligence, rash driving, and endangering public safety.
Police confirmed that the driver was not drunk. Further investigation is ongoing.
