OpenAI is expanding its AI team. Crossing Minds, a startup specialising in AI recommendation systems for e-commerce businesses has announced that its core team is joining the ChatGPT-maker as the Microsoft-backed tech company pushed into enhancing personalisation and recommendation capabilities.In a statement posted on their website, Crossing Minds’ co-founders expressed their enthusiasm for the move. While the exact number of team members transitioning to OpenAI remains unconfirmed, Crossing Minds co-founder Alexandre Robicquet has already updated his LinkedIn profile, now listing his role as “Research, Post-training and Agents at OpenAI.”“Joining OpenAI allows us to bring our work — and our values — into a mission we deeply respect: to ensure artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity,” they said.“We’re thrilled to bring our experience and energy to a team that’s setting the direction for the future of AI. Crossing Minds is known for its work with e-commerce companies, focusing on improving their personalisation and recommendation systems by analysing on-site customer behaviour data to understand shopping preferences, all while prioritising user privacy. Citing data from Crunchbase, a report by TechCrunch says that Crossing Minds had garnered substantial support, raising over $13.5 million from investors including Index Ventures, Shopify, Plug and Play, and Radical Ventures.Its website now states that it will no longer be taking on new clients, indicating a full transition. Previously, the company listed prominent clients such as Intuit, Anthropic, Udacity, and Chanel on its archived “About” page.This acquisition comes amidst a heated race among AI companies to enhance customer shopping experiences. Tech giants like Google and emerging players such as Perplexity have recently launched AI features aimed at improving recommendations.
