The NBA legend Carmelo Anthony and his son Kiyan appeared for the “Close Friends Only with Instagram” show and discussed various topics from how the social media platform is influencing the youth to the Anthony family dynamics. One such discussion was made around Kiyan choosing Syracuse University to play basketball. It is well-known that the NBA legend also started his basketball career with Syracuse, and many fans think that it’s because Kiyan is trying to follow his father’s footsteps, which influenced his decision. However, Kiyan went ahead and revealed the real reason behind his choice.
Kiyan Anthony chose Syracuse as it’s closer to home
Carmelo Anthony and his son Kiyan appeared on the “Close Friends Only with Instagram” show where the latter revealed his reason for choosing Syracuse University. In the later half of the show, the topic diverted to Kiyan’s choice of college, where the NBA legend asked him the reason behind choosing Syracuse.“I feel like I chose Syracuse because my last two (options) was between Syracuse and USC. So, obviously, Syracuse is closer to home, has good coaching staff, good group of players that coming with me. Obviously, you went there, so it’s an opportunity to follow your footsteps. Those were the main two things on why I chose Syracuse.”
Kiyan recently graduated from Long Island Lutheran high school which is located in Brookville, New York. Since Syracuse is at Onondaga County, New York, it won’t be too far from home. Besides, it is well-known how close Kiyan is to his mother La La Anthony, and this would be the first time he will be away from home.The 10-time All-Star player also asked Kiyan about the moment when he chose Syracuse and what it felt like, to which he said,“It was a pressure reliever. Now I don’t have to worry about people trying to guess where I am going (to university) and put their opinions on it.”The father-son duo also explored the topic as to what it was like when the Hall of Famer attend Syracuse.
