Calangute liquor shops shut for booze sale after 10pm | Goa News

Calangute: Several retail and wholesale liquor outlets in Calangute, found selling alcohol after 10pm, were shut down by the excise department on Tuesday night. The drive started after Calangute MLA Michael Lobo urged the excise commissioner to enforce the mandatory closing time in the Calangute-Candolim coastal belt following incidents of hooliganism and violence by inebriated tourists and migrant workers. On Sunday night, two policemen were also assaulted.Excise department officials said such drives will continue.“Excise inspectors are supposed to check that the liquor outlets are closing at 10pm, but nothing is being done, resulting in a complete free-for-all situation in the north Goa tourism belt with drunken tourists and daily accidents. Not a single liquor licence has been cancelled or suspended,” Lobo said recently.
