Blue Star considering quick commerce segment

CHENNAI: Airconditioner maker Blue Star is evaluating the quick commerce space that requires the same day delivery and installation.
“Consumers are now used to quick commerce. Their expectation is that you will deliver the same day, at least ideally within two – three hours, and install it within another two hours. You can’t help it because they are used to this now in every commodity. And the industry will have to move towards that. All these can work only with the number of people being in the field trained and the number of digital initiatives that should be put as a backbone,” its MD B Thiagarajan said at a press conference in Chennai on Tuesday.
The company, which will end the current fiscal (FY25) with a sale of 1.5 million units, is looking at a sale of about 1.8 million units in the next financial year of 2025-26. Online sales accounted for 10% share of its overall sales.
Pointing out that creating the capacity of technicians was the need of the hour, he said Blue Star Academy for Technical Excellence was launched in Chennai four months ago.
“We have set up it and want to create the required capacity, certify and accredit them,” he added.
On the other hand, Blue Star has set aside a capex of Rs 200 crore for FY26.
