BHIM 3.0 launched: New features, how it works and more about NPCI’s Bharat Interface for Money new service

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched BHIM 3.0, the latest upgrade to the Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) app, introducing a suite of new features aimed at simplifying expense management and enhancing user experience. The rollout of BHIM 3.0 will occur in phases, with full availability expected by April 2025.
BHIM 3.0: Key features
BHIM 3.0 empowers users with tools to track, monitor, and split expenses effortlessly. The app now includes a Split Expenses feature, allowing users to divide bills among friends and family for activities like dining, rent, or shopping. Additionally, the new Family Mode enables users to onboard family members, track shared expenses, and assign payments, providing a consolidated view of household finances.
The app also introduces a Spends Analytics Dashboard, offering an overview of monthly expenses. Transactions are automatically categorised, helping users analyse spending patterns and manage budgets without relying on external tools.
BHIM 3.0: Better accessibility and security
To cater to a diverse user base, BHIM 3.0 supports over 15 Indian languages, making digital payments more inclusive. The app is optimised to function seamlessly even in areas with low or unstable internet connectivity, ensuring uninterrupted transactions.
Security has been bolstered with improved protocols. The Action Needed Assistant feature reminds users of pending bills, prompts UPI Lite activation for faster transactions, and alerts them when their Lite balance is low.
BHIM 3.0: New offerings for businesses
Merchants can now benefit from BHIM Vega, an integrated in-app payment solution that allows instant transactions without switching between platforms. This feature enhances customer convenience and streamlines business operations.
