Bengaluru infrastructure row: Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw meets deputy CM D K Shivakumar; discusses growth, innovation | Bengaluru News
BENGALURU: After weeks of a war of words over Bengaluru’s crumbling infrastructure, Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw met deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar at his residence.DK Shivakumar shared about the meeting on social media platform X, stating: “It was a pleasure to meet Ms. @kiranshaw, entrepreneur and Founder of Biocon, at my residence today. We had an engaging discussion on Bengaluru’s growth, innovation, and the path ahead for Karnataka’s growth story.“

The meeting follows recent criticism from Mazumdar-Shaw about Bengaluru’s infrastructure problems, particularly regarding road conditions and garbage management.Mazumdar-Shaw had earlier shared feedback from an overseas business visitor on X: “I had an overseas business visitor to Biocon Park who said, ‘Why are the roads so bad and why is there so much garbage around? Doesn’t the Govt want to support investment? I have just come from China and cant understand why India can’t get its act together especially when the winds are favourable?'”In response to her criticism, Shivakumar had challenged her during the “Bengaluru Nadige” program in KR Puram area, saying: “If she wants to develop them (roads), let her do it. If she comes and asks, we will give her the roads.”Shivakumar further expressed disappointment with some Bengaluru industrialists during a ‘Walk with Bengaluru’ initiative at Koramangala.“Some of the industrialists who owe their success to Bengaluru are today criticising the city. They are forgetting their humble beginnings in Bengaluru and how the city helped them grow. I believe that we should not forget our roots,” the deputy chief minister said while speaking to reporters. The exchange highlights the ongoing tension between the government and business leaders over Bengaluru’s urban development challenges.Mazumdar-Shaw has consistently emphasized the need for proper garbage clearance and road maintenance, holding government officials accountable for the city’s infrastructure condition. The meeting between the two leaders suggests an attempt to address these concerns and work towards improving Bengaluru’s infrastructure.(With Agency Inputs)
