Beltola burglary: 1 of 3 held injured in police firing
In a bold nighttime operation, the Guwahati police successfully apprehended three notorious thieves, recovering an impressive stash of over Rs 15.5 lakh in cash and stolen valuables. As the suspects attempted to flee, one was shot in the leg during the dramatic chase.

Guwahati: Police arrested three persons linked to a burglary in the Beltola area last month and recovered Rs 15,56,000, officials said. During a recovery operation, one of the accused was shot in the left leg after he allegedly tried to flee, police said.Personnel from Basistha Police Station made the arrests on Sunday night. The accused were identified as Subhash Das of Bhangagarh, Madhav Das of Dhirenpara, and Karthik Sarma from Assam’s Darrang district, police said.Kapil Pathak, OC of Basistha PS, said, “These persons are notorious burglars, and they have been breaking into homes, especially flats, in different parts of the city,” the OC said.Police said they recovered Rs 15,56,000 and items allegedly used in the crime, including two scooters and three mobile phones. The police said the mobile phones were purchased using stolen money.Pathak said the three were arrested under sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and produced before a local court on Monday.During interrogation, Pathak said, Madhav led police to a rented premises at 10 Mile, Jorabat, where additional stolen items were kept. “While the recovery operation was underway, he attempted to flee. In an effort to prevent his escape, one of the police personnel fired at him, resulting in a gunshot injury to his left leg. Subsequently, the accused was apprehended and immediately taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment,” Pathak said.GMCH medical superintendent Devajit Choudhary told the media that Das may have suffered nerve damage and was undergoing assessment. He said there was no bleeding at present, further tests were required, and the patient was stable.Police said the burglary attempt took place at Nirupama Enclave on Chilarai Path, where three burglars broke into two houses and stole valuables while the homeowners were away working outside Guwahati.
