Beef up security during harvest season: Joint forum to CM Conrad | Guwahati News
Shillong: The Joint Action Committee Border Issue, a conglomeration of students’ union and NGOs, has urged CM Conrad K Sangma to strengthen security at Lapangap village along the Meghalaya-Assam boundary to ensure safety of the residents during paddy harvesting. In a memorandum to the CM on Tuesday, they said the prevailing situation at the inter-state boundary, particularly at Lapangap Village, was “alarming” because of “recent incidents and growing tension” and sought deployment of adequate security and police personnel. One person from Tapat Village in Karbi Anglong had died in a violent confrontation in the area during harvesting recently. The memo urged the CM to ensure “continuous patrolling and monitoring to prevent any intrusion or unlawful activity from across the border” and provide necessary protection and confidence to the residents “so that they may peacefully harvest their paddy fields without fear or disturbance”.
