Army saves woman from drowning in B’putra | Guwahati News
Guwahati: Army jawans rescued a young woman from drowning in the Brahmaputra near the Saraighat bridge in Guwahati on Friday.The Army said personnel from the 263 Inland Water Transport (IWT) operational unit, along with engineers, were on route duty aboard marine crafts anchored near Sadilapur Ghat when they heard cries for help from beneath the bridge. “Reacting immediately to the distress call, the Army personnel deployed the safety boat stationed at the ghat and navigated swiftly towards the victim,” an Army official said.The woman was pulled out of the water and brought aboard the rescue craft, after which the soldiers administered first aid. “The rescue operation was carried out by Ali Mohammad, Rajender Singh, Subhash Chandra and Magan Singh, whose coordinated efforts and quick response prevented a potential tragedy,” the official added.The rescued woman, whose identity has not been revealed, is a resident of the city’s Ulubari area. After her condition was found to be stable, she was handed over to police from the Pandu river police station for further action.
