AIIMS Raipur opens renal transplant unit, reducing dependence on metro cities

RAIPUR: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur has inaugurated renal transplant facility on September 19. The facility would reduce the dependency of patients on metro cities for critical renal transplant surgeries. It is expected to transform kidney care services in Chhattisgarh and adjoining states. Padma Shri Dr Budhendra Kumar Jain, newly appointed President of AIIMS Raipur, inaugurated the facility during his three-day visit to the institute. Dr. Jain, a renowned ophthalmologist and visionary social reformer, said, “The facility would reduce the dependency of patients on metro cities for critical renal transplant surgeries. This initiative reflects AIIMS Raipur’s commitment to delivering world-class, patient-centric healthcare. The renal transplant unit will serve as a lifeline for patients suffering from end-stage kidney disease.” The state-of-the-art facility is supported by a multidisciplinary team of nephrologists, urologists, transplant surgeons, and specialized nursing staff, alongside advanced diagnostic and post-operative care units. Officials said the unit will particularly benefit patients from economically weaker backgrounds who often struggle with the cost and travel burden of treatment outside the state. Alongside the renal transplant facility, Dr. Jain also inaugurated the Pediatric Surgery and Ophthalmology wards, dedicated Ophthalmology and Nephrology OPDs, and a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) unit in Dentistry. During his visit, he interacted with patients, reviewed emergency innovations such as “BHISHM Cubes,” and released the institute’s Patient Safety Handbook.
