Additional flights kept on standby, says aviation minister | India News

Union aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu immediately ordered airlines to refrain from surge pricing and keep fares in check. Thursday will also see extra flight by airlines. Aviation ministry says it has kept “additional flights on standby to cater to further evacuation needs”.
Airlines have waived cancellations and rebooking charges for Srinagar flights till up to May 7. ITC Hotels said it is “extending guests option of rescheduling or refunding their stays at Srinagar & Pahalgam properties.”
“Flights are going chock-a-block. Airlines are coordinating with each other… A family were to fly with the mortal remains of their kin from Srinagar to Surat on one airline. That airline could fly them to Delhi and AI Express delayed its Delhi-Surat flight to ensure they are on board,” said sources.
J&K CM Omar Abdullah said on X: “It’s heartbreaking to see exodus of our guests, but at we totally understand why people would want to leave. While DGCA & aviation ministry are working to organise extra flights, NH-44 between Srinagar and Jammu has been reconnected for traffic… (sic)”
On Wednesday, 25 mortal remains were sent to their respective destinations along with 123 accompanying kin.
