India achieved a historic milestone at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, securing 50 gold medals to lead the medal tally for the first time in the championship’s history.In the Olympic events across rifle, pistol, and shotgun categories, the Indian senior team claimed six gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. They finished second to China, which won eight gold medals, while Kazakhstan secured one gold.“It is a spectacular performance, and it is quite clear that the confidence of the shooting ecosystem is sky-high and significantly boosted by our performance at the Paris Olympics. Kazakhstan finished second with 70 medals and 21 gold, while China placed third with 15 gold and 37 medals overall.The senior team’s standout performances included Elavenil Valarivan‘s second Asian title in women’s air rifle with an Asian record score. She also won gold with Arjun Babuta in the mixed team event.Neeru Dhanda secured India’s first-ever Asian championship gold in women’s trap. Sift Kaur Samra claimed her first Asian title in women’s 50 rifle 3-position, while Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar successfully defended his men’s 3P title.Indian junior shooters dominated the Olympic events with 10 gold, four silver, and three bronze medals.Additional gold medals came from youth competitions, team events, and non-Olympic categories. Former world champion Ankur Mittal won the men’s Double Trap gold with a world record score of 107.Rio Olympian Gurpreet Singh secured gold in the men’s 25m Standard Pistol event.
