5 women buried alive, 3 injured during mudslide in Kaushambi while digging for house construction

PRAYAGRAJ: At least five women engaged to dig mud for their houses near a pond died and three others were injured after they were buried under a mudslide at Teekardeeh village under the limits of Kokhraj police station on Monday morning. The injured persons were admitted at district hospital, Manjhanpur for treatment.
SP (Kaushambi) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava told TOI “ The incident took place around 7 am when a group of eight to nine people, mostly women, went to dig mud for their houses near a pond. He added “ when all the eight persons were busy digging the mud, a mound of soil collapsed on them and as a result, they were all trapped under the debris of mud.
Hearing the crisis, other villagers too rushed to the spot and informed police. Upon being alerted, a team of Kokhraj police rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation. However, doctors declared five women dead on arrival.
Locals told police that one of the women, standing near the site, shouted for help. Alerted by her cries, residents of nearby Tikar Deeh and adjoining village also rushed in to help.
