'Thandel' opening weekend box office: The Naga Chaitanya, Sai Pallavi film sees growth on Sunday, makes Rs 35.85 crore in India, Rs 50 crore worldwide

Naga Chaitanya, Sai Pallavi starrer ‘Thandel’ released in cinemas on Friday, February 7. The film is based on a real life incident – that of Pakistani forces capturing a fisherman from Srikakulam in international waters. However, in its core it’s a love story and fans are loving Sai and Chay’s chemistry on-screen. The film had a decent opening of around Rs 11.5 crore on Friday, of which the maximum number came from the Telugu version.
The movie has released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. On the day 1, it made Rs 11.3 crore in Telugu and around 12 lakhs in Hindi and 8 lakhs in Tamil. It saw a slight growth on Saturday and more so on Sunday. The movie made around Rs 12.25 crore on day 3 which is Sunday, in all languages. Thus, the net collection in India within its first three days is Rs 35.85 crore, according to Sacnilk. The worldwide gross collection of the film within three days is Rs 50 crore.
The Telugu version of the film had an occupancy of around 57 percent overall, but the night shows had an occupancy of 71.56%. The film needed a worldwide gross of around Rs 70 crore over the weekend to be made into a hit, but it collected over Rs 50 crore as a worldwide gross number. Meanwhile, the lifetime collection of ‘Game Changer’ was around Rs 180 crore at the global box office and if ‘Thandel’ continues this run even in the coming days, it may be able to cross that number and be called a hit.
More so, because ‘Thandel’ is a moderate budget movie, as opposed to ‘Game Changer’ which was a mega budget film. This one is also Chaitanya’s biggest opener.
