Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore inheritance dispute: Karisma Kapoor’s children call Priya Kapur ‘gambler’; reveal WhatsApp chats |

Sunjay Kapur’s inheritance battle has taken a dramatic turn, with his children, Samaira and Kiaan Raj, openly challenging the authenticity of his will. Represented by Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, they have accused their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur, of manipulating and possibly forging the document to secure a larger share of the Rs 30,000-crore estate.
Jethmalani labels Priya Kapur as acute gambler
As quoted by News18, speaking before Justice Jyoti Singh at the Delhi High Court, Mahesh Jethmalani said, “The lady is an acute gambler, good luck to her,” while arguing on behalf of Samaira and Kiaan Raj. The children have questioned the validity of Sunjay’s will, citing serious discrepancies and suspicious circumstances.
Children highlight serious errors in the will
Jethmalani pointed out “serious infirmities” in how the will was drafted and executed. He said, “When you get ‘she’ and ‘her’ wrong in four different places, a man like Sunjay Kapur, with his education and reputation, wouldn’t have signed it.” He added that such glaring errors would have ruined Sunjay’s reputation.
Metadata suggests document originated on stranger’s computer
The lawyer stressed that there was no proof Sunjay had ever drafted or seen the will. According to Jethmalani, metadata shows that the will was first created and edited on the device of Nitin Sharma, who had no formal connection with Sunjay Kapur. As quoted by Bollywood Hungama, he asked, “Who prepared this will?”. He further said, “The file was created and altered on Sharma’s system on March 17, 2025, the very day Sunjay was in Goa with his son Kiaan. It defies logic that he would rewrite his will on holiday while disinheriting his own children.”
WhatsApp messages indicate prior knowledge of will
The document was later converted into a PDF on March 24 at 10:06 a.m. and circulated through a WhatsApp group named Family Office IC, which included Priya Kapur, Nitin Sharma, and Dinesh Agarwal, a director of Aureus Investment Pvt Ltd. Jethmalani told the court, “Immediately after the document was shared, Priya Kapur responded, ‘Okay, thank you!’, with no surprise or hesitation. It reads like an acknowledgment of a task completed, with no endorsement from the deceased.”
Children question exclusion of mother from will
The siblings also raised concerns about Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, being excluded as a beneficiary. Jethmalani said, “There was always provision for the mother when he was alive. I’m sure Mr Gaggar [Rani Kapur’s lawyer] will tell you how the mother is being treated after his death.”
Children reject accusations of being greedy
The lawyer also rebutted Priya Kapur’s side, calling Karisma’s children “greedy.” Speaking for the children, Jethmalani said, “Everything I get from the trust was first from my grandmother and now from my father. You [Priya] call me greedy? Your greed is excessive, much more than mine.”Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur were married from 2003 to 2016 and have two children, Samaira and Kiaan. Their marriage ended in a bitter divorce after a long legal battle. After the split, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev, with whom he had another child.Disclaimer: The information in this report is based on a legal hearing as reported by a third-party source.
