Her song ‘Tu Hi Sagar Hai Tu Hi Kinara’ from Sankalp made her famous and won her the award for Best Female Playback Singer in 1975. She also received the Miyan Tansen Award that year. Her soft and emotional voice was loved in songs like ‘Saat Samandar Paar Se’ from ‘Taqdeer’, which she sang with Lata Mangeshkar.Acting career and personal lifeLater, she became an actress and appeared in movies like ‘Uljhan’ (1975), ‘Sankoch’, ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Apnapan’, ‘Khandaan’ and ‘Waqt Ki Deewar’.
