'Son of Sardaar 2' and 'Dhadak 2' advance box office report: Ajay Devgn and Siddhant Chaturvedi starrer to struggle to find footing amid competition from 'Saiyaara' and 'Mahavatar Narsimha'

The Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ and the Siddhanth Chaturvedi starrer ‘Dhadak 2’ will hit the big screens today. According to early box office reports, the films appear to be facing an uphill battle, dealing with intense competition and underwhelming pre-release buzz. The surprise growth and performance of ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’, combined with the current popularity of Mohit Suri‘s romantic film ‘Saiyaara’, have reportedly dampened prospects for both sequels.A report on boxofficeindia states that despite the advantage of being sequels of hit films, neither has managed to generate significant traction through music or trailer, which were expected to boost initial footfalls. Industry analysts further state that the release window of the films has seemingly worked against them, as their release comes amidst one of the most competitive weekends of the year.

Advance Bookings

In terms of advance bookings across national chains for August 1st, ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ has sold approximately 28,000 tickets. Meanwhile, Dhadak 2 follows with 18,000 tickets, according to boxofficeworldwide. While leading in advance bookings, both films have failed to create the buzz expected of a major sequel. ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ had previously performed well in regions like East Punjab, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh-Bihar during its original run, but early indicators suggest a far tougher outing this time.On the other hand, ‘Dhadak 2’ is coming after the release of ‘Saiyaara’, 2025’s biggest overseas Bollywood hit, which continues to draw in the masses. With the film receiving a lukewarm pre-release reception, it will likely depend on reviews and great word of mouth to boost its ticket sales. The film may find some support over the weekend, particularly on Saturday and Sunday, but analysts remain are uncertain about its long-term potential.

Stiff Competition

Meanwhile, the animated mythological film ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’, which opened to minimum buzz and low pre-release visibility, has quickly emerged as a wild card. The film has benefitte from positive word-of-mouth and great reviews, pushing it past the Rs 44 crore mark by the end of its first week at the Indian box office. Early predictions indicate that the film could likely emerge as a hit this weekend and outperform both new releases.

Box Office Predictions

With ‘Saiyaara’ and ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ in the lead, trade reports suggest that both ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ and ‘Dhadak 2’ may end up trailing behind, placing them in the third and fourth spots at the box office.
