SLIPPER thrown at Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu; Woman questioned by police; event gets disrupted | Tamil Movie News
A strange and shocking moment happened in Tiruppur when a slipper was thrown at famous Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu during a public event. He had come there to attend the inauguration of the Kongu Arts, Literature, and Cultural Federation. The event was held at the Tiruppur District Collector’s Office.Everything was going on normally. People were listening and watching the program. Suddenly a slipper flew towards the stage area. The slipper did not hit Vairamuthu, but it fell among the crowd.
Who threw the slipper?
Reports from the DT Next website say that the police later found out that the slipper was thrown by a woman named Jaya. She was present at the same place during the event. Reportedly, the police questioned her to know why she did it. According to early information, the woman is reportedly suffering from mental health issues.During questioning police learned that Jaya staged a sit-in protest in front of the Tiruppur Collectorate. Reports from Reporter TV say that she was upset because no action was taken on a complaint she had filed earlier.
Earlier issue linked to Vairamuthu
This is not the first time Vairamuthu has been in the news recently. Earlier in 2025, he had spoken openly about the Tamil film industry using his song lyrics as film titles without asking his permission. He shared his thoughts on his X account in Tamil. His words loosely meant, “Many of my verses have been used by the Tamil film industry as film titles. None of those who have taken them have asked my permission or even asked for a word of respect.”He also wrote, “Despite them taking my lyric lines without acknowledgement, I have never rebuked anyone nor have I questioned it whenever and wherever I met them. In a society where wealth is not shared in common, I take joy in the fact that knowledge at least becomes common property. It would be uncivilized of me to ask, ‘Why didn’t you ask me before doing this?’ But isn’t it equally uncivilized of them not to have even asked me a single word?”After this post, actor Aadhav Kannadasan responded. He clarified that he had taken permission from Vairamuthu to use his lyrics as the title of his 2013 film Ponmaalai Pozhudhu. He wrote, “Sir, with all due respect, we got your permission for #PonmaalaiPozhudhu. As you mentioned, it’s a special feeling as #KaviyarasuKannadasan’s grandson is using your lyrics as the film title. You felt proud. The lyrics in the film were written by dearest @madhankarky. Sir, thank you.”
