Prajakta Koli says she signed on for Netflix’s ‘Single Papa’ before she ever saw the script. The actor and creator described it as a gut call, rooted in confidence in the people making the series. Now that season two has been cleared to move ahead, Koli is looking back at how her work has grown from YouTube to books, films, and web shows, and why she feels this moment offers more room to choose boldly across formats and languages.
Moving beyond YouTube to acting
According to Mid-Day, Prajakta Koli said digital platforms have helped erase rigid boundaries between mediums. She credited OTT services for making the shift from online content to films and series feel seamless. “It’s such a beautiful time to be an artiste in a country especially at our age because suddenly those guardrails are really low,” she said. “There’s a whole pool of content [to explore]. And suddenly the agency is with the audience.”Koli added that acting is now central to her larger creative journey. “It’s a very important part of the whole picture,” she said. Over the years, she has expanded beyond YouTube to write a book, develop scripts, and act in web shows and Hindi films.Her entry into Marathi cinema marked a personal milestone. The actor made her debut in her mother tongue with ‘Krantijyoti Vidyalay Marathi Madhyam,’ which was released on January 1. “My Marathi movie released on January 1, titled Krantijyoti Vidyalay Marathi Madhyam. It’s a musical and my first,” she said. The film also stars Amey Wagh, Siddharth Chandekar, and Kshitee Jog.
Why did she say yes to ‘Single Papa’?
Koli is now preparing for the second season of ‘Single Papa’, which has been officially approved. She described her experience with the show as joyful from the start. “Even before I got to reading the script, I knew that I had to do the show,” she said.The collaboration itself sealed the deal. “After all, Netflix and Shashank Khaitan were making it together,” she added. Koli auditioned in November and learned months later about the ensemble cast. “I auditioned in November, and I think in May I found out Kunal [Kemmu], Neha [Dhupia], Manoj sir [Pahwa], and Ayesha [Raza Mishra] were also part of it.”She recalled the atmosphere on set with fondness. “The set was a fun place to be; there was no reason for me to not do this,” she said.
