Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs moved to federal prison; begins four-year sentence for prostitution-related crimes |
US hip-hop star Sean “Diddy” Combs has been transferred to a prison in New Jersey to serve his jail term of four years and two months for prostitution-related crimes, a federal register showed Friday. Combs is being held in the low-security Fort Dix prison, some 130 kilometers (80 miles) south of New York, a facility also known for its drug treatment programs.
Lawyer requests move to jailhouse
His lawyers had requested that Combs be moved to the jailhouse where he is set to stay until May 8, 2028, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Lawyers ask for reduced sentence
Combs wants a federal appeals court to quickly consider the legality of his conviction on prostitution-related charges and his more than four-year prison sentence. His lawyers filed papers with the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday, asking that oral arguments in his appeal occur in April. The lawyers noted that Combs has already served 14 months of his 50-month sentence and that he may earn reductions in time behind bars because of his participation in a substance abuse treatment program and a program established by the First Step Act to improve an inmate’s return to society.Combs wants his appeal to be considered soon enough that he can benefit from a reduction of time spent in prison if the appeals court reverses his conviction, his lawyers said.
About Diddy’s case
Arrested in September 2024, the music mogul was convicted this July of two counts of transporting people across state lines for prostitution. But a jury acquitted him of the most serious charges — sex trafficking and racketeering.Tearfully addressing the court before the judge handed down the sentence, which reflects the time he has already served in a notorious Brooklyn lockup, Combs said he was “truly sorry” for his actions. He apologized to his family as well as his victims, saying his behavior was “disgusting, shameful and sick.”Combs has appealed both his conviction and sentence.
