The teaser of Yash’s upcoming film ‘Toxic’ is out now and it has shocked many people online. The visuals are bold and very stylish. In one of the moments in the teaser, Yash is seen inside a car with a woman in an intimate moment. The car moves in a way that many felt was made only to excite and attract viewers. The scene is packed in a flashy and fun way but many feel it shows clear objectification of women. What surprised people more is that this teaser is made by Geetu Mohandas who is a director who earlier spoke strongly against such visuals. Because of this many started talking about double standards and old statements coming back.

Old Kasaba issue comes back

Years ago Geetu Mohandas and Parvathy Thiruvothu had openly criticised a scene from Mammootty’s film ‘Kasaba’. The scene showed Mammootty’s dark character grabbing a woman police officer by her belt. At that time ‘Kasaba’ director Nithin Renji Panicker faced heavy backlash. Many supported Geetu’s stand, while others said she ignored the fact that Mammootty played a negative shaded role. That debate never fully died down. Now with ‘Toxic’ teaser out, the same topic has returned in a louder way.

Nithin Renji Panicker’s sharp post

On January 8, last year, when Geetu released a 59-second birthday peek of ‘Toxic’, Nithin Renji Panicker reacted strongly. He took to Instagram and mocked Geetu by calling out what he felt was hypocrisy. He wrote, “A visual narrative of political standpoints, completely devoid of misogyny, free from the objectification of women’s bodies, and entirely lacking the ‘male gaze,’ where even the ‘masculinity’ seen in Kasaba fades under scrutiny… Someone who boldly shouted ‘SAY IT, SAY IT!!’ and pushed the gears forward. But when it came to crossing state lines, they conveniently revised their definition of misogyny to suit their comfort. #Toxic.” His words clearly showed his anger and long-standing frustration.

Why Toxic visuals upset many

In the ‘Toxic’ glimpse, Yash is shown walking into a pub with full swag, smoking a cigarette. The visuals show club dancers, women, and drug use. The teaser was released to celebrate Yash’s birthday on January 8. While fans loved the style and attitude, many questioned the message. Nithin pointed out that Geetu once accused Kasaba of promoting male dominance. Now, he feels she has changed her stand while working on a Kannada film. According to him, the definition of misogyny seems to change based on comfort and market.

Nithin has also shared a note on Instagram on the last day which seems like an indirect hit. The caption reads, “When the ‘pseudo’ YOU forget YOUR own ‘GOSPEL’, hypocrisy blooms…and rot follows (I hope not) Yet…standing in the aftermath (messy and deserved) I can admit, it had its moments..”
