Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra’s secret Italy wedding was planned in just one week, reveals Sabyasachi Mukherjee: ‘It was a mad wedding’ | Hindi Movie News

Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra’s wedding in 2014 remains one of Bollywood’s most private affairs to date. Held in Italy, the intimate celebration was attended by just close family and a handful of friends, with no official wedding photos ever made public. Now, ace designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who crafted Rani’s bridal outfit, has shared rare details about the hush-hush event.
Speaking at an event with Fashionably Pernia, Sabyasachi recalled how spontaneous and fun it was to work with the actor on her wedding look. “You know who was fun to work with? It was actually Rani Mukerji. She never released the photos. But, the fact is that it was a mad wedding which was done between her, Adi, Karan, and me. She was very chilled out,” he said.

The designer also shared how last-minute the entire wedding was. “She came over for lunch one day and said that she is getting married. I asked her how much time I had and she said one week,” he revealed. “I had to put something together in that much time. It’s fun when people enjoy their wedding. It just makes the process of designing for them so much more fun.”
The bridal look, much like the ceremony, was elegant and understated, true to Rani’s off-camera persona.
Karan Johar had to keep Rani and Aditya’s wedding a secret even from his own mother
While Rani and Aditya’s marriage caught many off guard, it turns out even the guests had to go to great lengths to keep it quiet. Though he didn’t name anyone, Karan Johar had previously hinted in an interview that he was one of the few invited and had been warned not to let word slip out. He shared that the groom was extremely cautious about media leaks and even jokingly blamed Karan in advance if any details surfaced.
The filmmaker also revealed that he had to make up an excuse to attend the ceremony, pretending to have an event abroad, despite it clashing with the release of a major film. It was April 2014, and 2 States was hitting the screens that weekend, yet Karan quietly slipped away to attend the wedding.
Though the ceremony in Italy was tightly guarded, the couple later hosted a reception in Mumbai for their friends in the film industry. To this day, the wedding remains an example of how celebrities can pull off a grand celebration, without the spotlight.
