Rajinikanth’s Coolie theatrical rights in Andhra Pradesh-Telangana quoted at Rs 50 crore amidst Hrithik Roshan- NTR Jr’s War 2 clash

The buzz around Rajinikanth’s next big outing, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, continues to intensify. The film first created buzz when it decided that it will be hitting the theaters during the Independence day weekend- the date booked for makers of War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan- NTR Jr. Now the buzz doing the rounds is that the makers who have mostly retained all distribution rights for the film are asking for Rs 50 crore for the theatrical rights in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alone—a bold ask that reflects the film’s high-octane star power and pan-India appeal.

Unlike Lokesh Kanagaraj’s previous ventures, Coolie is not part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), but it brings together an ensemble cast that’s nothing short of explosive. The film features South superstars Nagarjuna, Sivakarthikeyan, and Upendra, along with a special appearance by Aamir Khan, making it one of the most ambitious cross-regional projects in recent times.
The Rs 50 crore valuation for the Telugu states is significant, especially given the film’s competition. Coolie is set to clash at the box office with War 2, the much-awaited action thriller from Ayan Mukerji and Aditya Chopra, starring Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr.The trade has a lot of expectations from the War sequel as they this would be the first film that would challenge south industries who have made an inroad in Bollywood with their pan-India films like Baahubali series, KGF franchise and very recently Pushpa films. With both films expected to be massive crowd-pullers, the box office battle is shaping up to be one of the biggest in Indian cinema. NTR Jr is coming on the big screen of two back to back superhits in RRR and Devara Part 1.
In the past, Tamil films of Rajinikant like Robot, 2.0, Kamal Haasan’s Vikram and Lokesh’s Leo: Bloody Sweet with Thalapathy Vijay have done a good business in Telugu speaking states, so there are high chances of Coolie also finding it’s space in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. But it would face strong competition from War 2 thanks to NTR Jr’s presence.
