Rahul Bhatt, son of veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and his first wife Kiran Bhatt, recently offered a rare and honest glimpse into his life growing up in a high-profile film family. Despite his lineage, Rahul steered clear of the film industry — a decision rooted in personal experiences and strong convictions. Rahul revisited the emotional wounds caused by his parents’ separation.
In an interview with Hindi Rush, Rahul recounted the difficulties he faced as a child and teenager, particularly the isolation and ridicule that came with being the son of a celebrated filmmaker. “The scars are still very much there, although they have lightened over the years. There was a lot of anger within me growing up, particularly because people kept making fun of me and my mother. Other kids used to ridicule me by saying that my father had left my mother. Children can be very brutal,” he shared.

Rahul described himself as a loner during his formative years. “I was always lonely. People didn’t want to associate with me. So, I was and continue to be a loner. But that anger never actually left. It has subsided, yes, but not entirely gone,” he said.
He also reflected on the absence of meaningful parental involvement and support systems during his youth. Without guidance from either home or school, he struggled to heal emotionally. According to him, his deep connection with fitness became a lifeline, helping him navigate the turmoil. He expressed disillusionment with the inner workings of the film industry, calling out its hypocrisy. “I don’t like film people; they are hypocritical. One of the reasons why I never pursued a career in cinema was that I could never compromise on my morals,” he shared.

Despite maintaining some level of contact with his father after the divorce, Rahul said their emotional connection was weak. Mahesh was financially supportive but lacked emotional availability. Rahul had to deal with many challenges by himself while growing up, as Mahesh never had a real connection with him as a father.
