Om Puri had an affair with his house help, he confessed this to his first wife one day before getting married: 'I didn't have the courage to cancel the wedding'

Om Puri was married to Seema Kapoor. He later divorced her and married Nandita. Years after the veteran actor passed away, his first wife Seema has now made several revelations about him. In a recent interview, she spoke about her wedding to him. She also opened up on how Om cheated on her with Nandita and they got divorced when she was pregnant. She then lost her baby as she moved out of Om’s house when she was three months pregnant.
During this interview, Seema also revealed that Om told her he had an affair with his house help, just one day before they got married. She said, “We got engaged in 1989, and I don’t know why, but both families rushed us into getting married. Annu bhaiya (Annu Kapoor) was away shooting, and he was very upset that he got to know about his favourite sister’s engagement through another person. In those days, phones weren’t common. Just before the wedding, he told me about his relationship with the house help.”
However, Seema did not have the courage to just call off the wedding. “The invites had been sent out, we were going to have a reception as well. We were in a small town, Jhalawar, where my parents were highly respected individuals. He took me aside to the river and said that he needed to tell me something. I didn’t have the courage to cancel the wedding one day before it was supposed to happen. Women these days are far more courageous; some of them back out even during the rituals,” she said.
In the same interview, she recalled how Om’s affair with Nandita left her with immense trauma as she lost her baby while pregnant. During the divorce, Om had given her an alimony of Rs 6 lakh but when she lost their baby, the actor sent her Rs 25,000. She said, “Forget consoling me. He sent Rs 25,000 via his secretary. I turned it down, and his secretary told me, ‘This ego is what is destroying you’. But what he thought was ego was just self-respect.”
