Meghan Markle drops both last names in new podcast, chooses to go by Just “Meghan”

Meghan Markle surprised many listeners when she introduced herself by only her first name during the debut episode of her new podcast, Confessions of a ‘Female Founder’.
According to a report from Page Six, the Duchess of Sussex simply said, “I’m Meghan,” without using either her maiden name “Markle” or her royal title “Sussex.”
This came just a month after she made headlines for telling actress and writer Mindy Kaling that she now goes by “Sussex.” Meghan’s comment happened during their conversation on her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, where she jokingly corrected Kaling for referring to her as “Meghan Markle.” She laughed and said, “It’s so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now.”
But in her podcast’s premiere episode, she seemed to take a new approach—using no last name at all. Even the podcast credits, read by another voice at the end of the episode, referred to her simply as “Meghan.” The credits stated, “Confessions of a Female Founder is a production of Lemonada Media, created and hosted by Meghan.” Promotional materials on streaming platforms also use the same format, with the title reading: Confessions of a Female Founder with Meghan.
The shift comes after Meghan explained in her Netflix show how meaningful it is for her to share a family name with her husband, Prince Harry, and their two children—son Archie, 5, and daughter Lilibet, 3. Back in February 2025, Page Six reported that the couple had officially changed their children’s last names to “Sussex.”
When Kaling acknowledged the correction on The View in March, she said the moment “became big news” but added that she had a great time during the interview. Later, when Meghan appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show, the host even introduced her as “Meghan Sussex.”
Even though Meghan once insisted on being called “Sussex,” her latest public project shows she’s moving in a different direction. By using just her first name, she might be trying to connect with listeners on a more personal level, while still keeping her family identity private.
This fresh branding choice signals a new chapter in Meghan’s public identity. Whether it’s “Markle,” “Sussex,” or simply “Meghan,” she seems ready to define herself on her own terms.
