L2: Empuraan’ box office collection day 9: Mohanlal starrer opens second week on a steady note earning Rs 3 crore |

Despite facing a week of controversy, ‘L2: Empuraan‘ has emerged as one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films. The Sukumaran and Mohanlal starrer continued to attract viewers on its ninth day, earning approximately Rs 3 crore.
Box office performance
As per a Sacnilk report, the movie minted over Rs 3 crore on the ninth day as the early estimates which brings to a total of Rs 91.25 crore. The film had a strong opening week, where it collected Rs 88.25 crore, with Rs 80.7 crore coming from Malayalam-speaking regions alone. The remaining earnings were distributed across other languages, including Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi.
Theatre occupancy
On its ninth day, ‘L2: Empuraan’ maintained a significant presence in theaters, with a notable occupancy rate in Malayalam-speaking areas. The overall occupancy for the day was 20.07%, with a peak of 29.97% during night shows.In other languages, ‘L2: Empuraan’ also performed well. In Telugu, the film had an overall occupancy of 12.42%, with a peak of 17.35% during night shows. Tamil-speaking regions saw an overall occupancy of 16.18%, reaching up to 22.58% during night shows. However, in Hindi-speaking regions, the occupancy was lower at 6.64%, with a peak of 9.07% during night shows.
About the film
The film is the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘Lucifer’, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film brings back Mohanlal in his iconic role as Stephen Nedumpally, also known as Khureshi Ab’raam. The story picks up where ‘Lucifer’ left off, with Kerala’s Chief Minister Jathin Ramdas, played by Tovino Thomas, facing corruption charges and political unrest. As communal forces rise and the state’s political climate deteriorates, Stephen returns to Kerala to restore balance.
The cast of the film also includes Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Abhimanyu Singh, and Sachin Khedekar in key roles.
