Bollywood star Kajol was spotted visiting her cousin Ayan Mukerji‘s home with her husband, Ajay Devgn, and their son Yug, on Saturday, following the sudden passing of veteran actor-filmmaker Deb Mukherjee.
The 83-year-old industry veteran breathed his last at his suburban Mumbai residence on Friday morning after a prolonged illness.
Kajol, who was present at the funeral and last rite rituals on Friday. The star was spotted arriving at Ayan’s residence on Saturday afternoon with her family, to be with the grieving family and join in the prayer ceremony.
Deb’s demise was announced in a statement issued by representatives in a note that read, “We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Mr. Debu Mukherjee, an actor and driving force of the North Bombay Durga Puja. He left us this morning.
Mukherjee’s last rites were performed at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu, where family members and close friends from the industry, including Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan and many others, to pay their final respects.
Deb was a respected figure in the Hindi film industry, having appeared in notable films of the 1960s and 1970s, such as Tu Hi Meri Zindagi, Abhinetri, Do Aankhen, Baton Baton Mein, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, King Uncle, and Kaminey. He also directed and produced the 1983 action film Karate, featuring Mithun Chakraborty, Kaajal Kiran, and Yogeeta Bali.
Deb was the father-in-law of acclaimed filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker and the uncle of Bollywood actresses Kajol and Rani Mukerji. His lineage is deeply connected to Indian cinema, as he was the son of Satidevi, the only sister of legendary actors Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar, and Kishore Kumar. His brothers included noted actor-filmmaker Joy Mukherjee and filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee, who was married to veteran actress Tanuja.
Deb Mukherjee was married twice, with his daughter Sunita, from his first marriage, being married to Ashutosh Gowariker, while his son Ayan Mukerji is from his second marriage.
