Karan Johar recently shared that he is not sure if he would be able to make another movie like ‘Homebound’, which received critical acclaim but failed at the box office. After Karan Johar, in an interview with Komal Nahta, said that 50 percent of his production is owned by Adar Poonawalla. He added, “I made ‘Homebound’, which was critically acclaimed worldwide, but I can’t say if I’ll take such decisions again in the future. I will feel upset, but I chose this deal for growth—and growth comes from profit.”Soon, netizens slammed the filmmaker for his statements. A person posted, “You didn’t even give it screens!” Another individual wrote, “Everyone I’ve spoken to wanted to watch this film, but there were barely any shows. Like, no, I’m not travelling from Ghaziabad to Gurgaon for a 9 a.m. show on a Tuesday. It’s KJo’s fault the movie isn’t profitable.”An X user posted on his timeline, “‘Homebound’ needed more screens and promotion. Instead, Karan gave preference to SSKTK. Even Student of the Year would’ve flopped if he’d spent this little on publicity.”
Netizens stated that even big-budget films fail at the box office if they are not promoted properly. Some users expressed in the comments that his production house released the Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ just a week later. According to them, the big release overshadowed ‘Homebound’.
