Himesh Reshammiya’s discovery Ranu Mondal, who once won hearts with her Lata Mangeshkar renditions, now lives in a dirty home with no food |

Remember Ranu Mondal? She became an overnight sensation in 2019 after a video of her singing Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai at a railway station went viral. With what many called Maa Saraswati’s blessing, she won hearts across the nation and received immense praise for her soulful rendition of Lata Mangeshkar’s classics. Soon after, Bollywood composer Himesh Reshammiya offered her a song in his film Happy Hardy and Heer, and Ranu’s story of transformation inspired millions. But just as quickly as she rose to fame, Ranu Mondal disappeared from the spotlight.
From fame to fading away
Despite her sudden popularity, Ranu struggled to sustain her newfound stardom. She was invited to television reality shows, received offers from the Mumbai music industry, and even became a social media phenomenon. However, the attention was short-lived. Within months, the woman who once sang her way into the hearts of millions quietly returned to her hometown in Ranaghat, near Kolkata — back to the same modest life she had come from.

House littered with trash and insects
Recently, YouTuber Nishu Tiwari visited Ranu Mondal to see how she was living today. What she found left her heartbroken. Ranu’s house was shown in a dire state — the floor littered with trash, walls crumbling, and insects crawling in corners. She reportedly eats her meals on a plastic sheet and depends on neighbours for food and essentials.

When Nishu brought her some food, Ranu appeared delighted. She explained that she didn’t have a box to store the items, which is why they were scattered.
‘I learnt English in Mumbai’
In a surprising moment from the video, Ranu Mondal responded to several of the YouTuber’s questions in English. When asked about her fluency, she shared that she picked up the language during her time in Mumbai.

The video also revealed piles of garbage and old belongings stacked throughout her home, reflecting the harsh decline from the glitz of her brief fame.
Mental health struggles and isolation
Sources close to Ranu Mondal revealed that her mental health has deteriorated over the years. They shared that she has displayed erratic behaviour, with bouts of sudden laughter and agitation. Alongside her emotional struggles, she remains financially dependent on others for her daily needs.

From singing at a railway station to recording in a Bollywood studio, her rise was meteoric. But her fall has been equally tragic.
