Himani Shivpuri, who played the role of Kammo Bua in ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, recently opened up about how Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were on the sets. The actress shared that the entire cast and crew were like one big happy family. She expressed that Khan had not become the huge star he is at that time, and Kajol was “mad.“
Himani Shivpuri reveals Kajol was mayhem on the sets of DDLJ
In an interview with SCREEN, Himani Shivpuri shared that their interactions on the sets were “great.” She said, “SRK had not become such a big star by then, and Kajol was totally mad.”Shivpuri stated that she had done ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ with Kajol, and director Karan Johar was “pareshaan (in trouble), because she was such a tomboy.”She further added, “During DDLJ, we used to have lunch and breakfast laid out in one huge room, and we would eat together. Kajol would come wearing shorts that were a little torn, and she would jump on the table and pour curd on Aditya.”Shivpuri shared that veteran actors of the film would be “shocked.” She recalled Achala Sachdev telling her that actresses of her time would be “shy.” As per her, the veteran said, “Meena Kumari and others would sit in one corner of the room, wouldn’t talk too much. But here it was totally a mayhem.”However, she praised Kajol for switching into her game in front of the camera. Himani Shivpuri shared that the female lead was a bookworm, and Yash Chopra would get uncomfortable seeing her reading books instead of script lines.She said, “But the minute the camera switched on, Kajol was magical. She would light up; her eyes would become so expressive.” The actress concluded, saying that before the scenes, the leading lady would “either do masti, or would read, or would keep chattering away.”

In the same interview, while talking about Shah Rukh Khan, Himani Shivpuri said that the lead star is a wonderful human being, gracious and humble as well. She said, “He was a charming and handsome guy; those were the times when he was becoming a star, so he got along very well with everyone.”Directed by Aditya Chopra, ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ was released on October 20, 1995. And in a few days, the film will have completed 30 years since its release.
