Ground Zero box office collection Day 1: Emraan Hashmi starrer makes Rs 1 crore debut

Ground Zero, starring Emraan Hashmi in the lead, has made quite a dull start at the box office. The film, based on a true story, could not generate as much buzz prior to its release, thus raking in just around Rs 1 crore.
According to a report on sacnilk, the film had an overall 8.63% Hindi Occupancy on Friday, with morning shows recording the lowest occupancy of 4.71% and its night shows seeing an estimated 14.06% occupancy.
While the film failed to generate as much buzz, early indicators suggested a modest start at the box office with trade analysts estimating an earning between Rs 1 to Rs 2 crore net on Day 1 in India. This is now among Hashmi’s weakest openings post-COVID, second only to Chehre, which debuted with just Rs 50 lakh.
Made on an overall budget of Rs 50 crores, all-inclusive of Prints and advertising costs, the film has a lot of catching up to do over the weekend if it even attempts to break even. The film earned just Rs 1 crore, despite lack of major competition.
Recent releases Jaat and Kesari Chapter 2 were catering to a niche audience and not dominating the box office, giving Ground Zero an open playing field. However, despite no major Bollywood clashes, the film has seemingly struggled to find its footing.
The film may build momentum, but, for now, all eyes remain on its weekend trajectory to see if it can overcome its slow start.
Directed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar, Ground Zero chronicles the 2003 counter-terrorism operation that led to the elimination of Ghazi Baba, the mastermind behind the 2001 Parliament and Akshardham Temple attacks. Emraan Hashmi steps into the role of BSF Commandant Dubey in what has been described as one of his most grounded and restrained performances to date.
