'Every actor is different': 'Laalo' actor Shruhad Goswami on comparision with 'Mahabharat's' Krishna Nitish Bharadwaj

‘Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate’ became a big surprise when it released last year during Diwali. The Gujarati film started slow but gradually people began talking about it. Families came in large numbers to watch the movie in theatres. Word of mouth helped a lot. In the end, the film went on to earn around Rs 100 crores. Shruhad Goswami played the key role of Lord Krishna in the film. Looking at the success, the makers had now released the movie in Hindi on January 9. In the last chat with Bollywood Hungama, Shruhad spoke openly about the film, the role, and how it changed him.

Actor says playing god is a big responsibility

Shruhad said playing Lord Krishna in India is not easy at all. “It is a very big responsibility to play the character of God,” he said. “I had to ensure that I don’t do anything that can hurt people’s sentiments.” He also shared that there was fear in the beginning. “There was a little bit of fear as well. But as we kept working on it, it kept becoming simple,” he added. He also explained that once the team understood the emotion, things slowly fell into place.

How December’s First Week Became Box Office King

The actor clearly said he does not want credit for how the character turned out. “When I saw the film for the first time, I wondered how I did this,” he said. “I am unable to believe that this was done by me.” Shruhad feels something beyond him worked through the role. “I feel there was some divine power through which I was able to do this. Else, how can a human being play God?” he said. “So, I don’t want to take any credit for this. It happened with God’s grace.”

A different Krishna and stronger faith

When asked about comparisons with Nitish Bharadwaj, Shruhad said every actor is different. “Nitish Bharadwaj is a different person; Shruhad is a different person,” he said. He shared that director Ankit Sakhiya wanted a Krishna who feels close to people. “Ankit had told me that we needed to show God in a particular way, who even has tears, speaks to us, admonishes us.” After the film, his faith became stronger. “We hadn’t even asked for anything. He still gave us so much,” he said. Now, offers are coming in, but Shruhad says he will choose only after listening calmly.
