Ed Sheeran’s Indian leg of the Mathematics Tour took an unexpected turn when Bengaluru police halted his impromptu performance on Church Street. The British singer-songwriter, who has been exploring India between concerts, decided to treat fans to a surprise set, but it was cut short by authorities. What was meant to be a short, intimate moment for fans turned into an embarrassment when cops stepped in mid-performance.
Dressed in a white T-shirt and green shorts, Ed was singing his global hit Shape of You when police officers arrived and unplugged the PA system. His team insists they had secured permission for the brief street performance, but authorities denied this, swiftly shutting down the show. The abrupt end left fans in shock, with many taking to social media to express their disappointment. A viral tweet capturing the incident read: “Just saw Ed Sheeran on Church Street. He sang his song , but sadly the police stopped him in the middle. ”
A day before his street performance, Ed had delighted fans on Instagram by sharing a video of himself playing the sitar for the first time, guided by musician Megha Rawoot.
Inspired by the experience, he planned the Bengaluru street set, embracing the city’s vibrant busking culture where he had his concert on Saturday night.Just a week earlier, he performed in Hyderabad, where he was joined on stage by Bollywood singer-composer Armaan Malik for a special collaboration.
