Before directing impactful films like Thappad, Mulk, and Article 15, Anubhav Sinha began his career in television. One of his early projects, Shikast, starred Shammi Kapoor in a negative role. Sinha recalled how Shammi was initially surprised by the offer and once stayed on set until 10 PM for a shot.
Anubhav recalled that their budget for the pilot episode was Rs 50,000, and they approached Shammi Kapoor for the villain’s role. When they met at Shammi’s home, the veteran actor was initially surprised and amused by the offer. However, after hearing the character’s details, he agreed, specifying his preferred shooting hours, ensuring he wrapped up by 4-5 PM daily.
The director also shared a moment that showcased Shammi Kapoor’s generosity. During a shoot, they needed a Mercedes in the frame to capture Vineet Kumar’s reflection. Shammi, who usually left by evening, stayed until 10 PM. When Sinha asked why he hadn’t left, Shammi revealed that the car used in the scene was his.
