Ameesha Patel, an actress whose career recently took off thanks to the popular movie ‘Gadar 2,’ has voiced some concerns about the very film. She has stated that she felt misled about the film’s climax, which, according to her, differed significantly from the original narration that focused on her character, Sakeena Ali Singh, despite the film’s enormous success. This isn’t the first time the actress has made such shocking claims. Earlier in November 2024, the actress, while replying to a netizen wrote – “In the final scene, the original intention was that your Sakina would kill the villain.”
Gadar 2: Sakeena was meant to kill the antagonist
Ameesha Patel recently talked about her experience working on ‘Gadar 2,’ in an interview with Manish Paul, claiming that the film’s director, Anil Sharma, neglected to contact her for a full year while the movie was being filmed. Additionally, she stated that she would only think about joining the potential ‘Gadar 3’ if appropriate contractual arrangements were in place. She agreed to star in ‘Gadar 2’ because she was narrated a climax where Sakeena, her character, would kill the antagonist. She added that the dialogues were prepared with Sunny Deol’s approval of this ending in mind, seeing it as a potent way to wrap things up.
“I agreed to do Gadar 2 because the climax featured Sakeena killing the villain. It was justified too because the villain (Major-General of Pakistan Army Hamid Iqbal, played by Manish Wadhwa) executed Sakeena’s father, Ashraf Ali. A consensus in this regard was reached by everyone. Sunny ji (Sunny Deol) was also on board and even the dialogues were ready. It would have been an incredible ending,” said Ameesha during the conversation.
Clear agreements and contracts
“Anil Sharma ji is like family; I have known him for 27 years,” Patel said, elaborating on her long-standing professional relationship with director Anil Sharma. As a result, even when working on the original ‘Gadar,’ there was no contract or bound script, allowing continuous customization of the story as the team went along for the benefit of the movie. “After I returned to Mumbai from Palampur, where the first schedule of ‘Gadar 2 ‘was shot, my director did not contact me for a year. During that time, I got to know that they had shot the climax without telling me, two months after we returned,” she shared. Patel also noted that many viewers found the final climax to be abrupt, particularly because it was unclear who defeated the villain—a role she felt Sakeena should have rightfully played in order to exact revenge on her father.
Ameesha believes in karma
Despite her disappointment, she chose not to confront the director or raise the issue during the film’s promotional activities. “Let bygones be bygones. However, I hope Anil Sharma’s conscience strikes. Also, I believe there’s an almighty and karma; you reap what you sow,” she commented.
When questioned about her willingness to participate in a ‘Gadar 3’ if the opportunity arose, Patel affirmed that she holds no personal grievances against anyone in the industry. “However, I would want a clear-cut understanding, with everything documented and bound by a contract. That said, I’m not opposed to working with anyone in the industry,” she clarified.
Even though ‘Gadar 2’ restored Ameesha Patel’s fame, her issues highlight how crucial communication and transparency are to the filmmaking process. She is still open to future projects despite her disappointment, as long as there is professionalism and understanding between the parties.
