NMC restarts demolition works of 34-year-old Vastrantar Griha bldg | Nashik News

NASHIK: Demolition works of the changing room or Vastrantar Griha building on the Godavari riverbank near Ramkund commenced once again on Sunday. Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) had begun the works on Sept 26, but it came to a halt due to persistent showers since then. It had led to the rise in water levels of the river, thereby causing obstacles in the demoltion work. However, with the stoppage of rain, NMC has begun the works again. “It will take two to three days for the complete demolition of the structure,” an official said.Lakhs of sadhus and devotees take a holy dip in Ramkund during Simhastha Kumbh Mela, which is held every 12 years. The existing Vastrantar Griha, which is right on the edge of Ramkund, falls in the blue line area of the Godavari river. It is around 34-years-old and may pose a danger during the congregation as thousands of sadhus and devotees assemble to take a holy dip in Ramkund during Kumbh. Hence, the structure is being removed from a safety point of view, said NMC officials.“After the demolition, the areas around Ramkund will get expanded, which will facilitate the sadhus on Amrit Snan (holy baths) days during Kumbh Mela,” said NMC officials.
