Bhubaneswar: The body of an unknown young man, with his head brutally crushed, was found near an under-construction road close to Defence Colony in Sailashree Vihar area here on Monday.Initial investigations suggest that the victim’s head was smashed with a heavy object, possibly a stone or an iron rod, indicating a violent attack, police sources said. The absence of clothing on the body has added a layer of mystery to the case, leaving investigators puzzled about the circumstances leading to the man’s death. “We are trying to ascertain the identities of the deceased and the perpetrators. The motive of the murder will be established only after the arrest of the accused,” commissioner of police S Dev Datta Singh said.This is the second brutal murder reported in Bhubaneswar during the day, with the first incident taking place in Khandagiri area, where an outsourced employee of AIIMS Bhubaneswar was shot dead allegedly by his cousin over a property dispute.The area surrounding the crime scene in Sailashree Vihar is bustling with construction activities, leading police to speculate that the deceased might have been connected to one of the ongoing projects. This theory is being pursued as police officers are questioning workers and supervisors at nearby construction sites, hoping to uncover any leads that might shed light on the victim’s identity and the events that led to his death.Local residents have expressed their concern over the incident, with many calling for increased security measures in the area to prevent such occurrences in the future. “There is a slum near the crime scene, but its inhabitants claim they have not seen the victim in the area. We are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity and examining missing person reports from Bhubaneswar and surrounding areas,” said Girish Chandra Maharana, inspector-in-charge of Chandrasekharpur police station.A resident of the nearby Defence Colony said, “The crime scene is close to our locality and the office of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission. Anti-social elements are often causing disturbances. Police need to take action to stop such activities.”
