Anubhav Sinha reveals ‘made career’s worst film with Ajay Devgn'; calls Shah Rukh Khan ‘passionate and compassionate’
Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha revealed that he made the worst film of his career with Ajay Devgn’s “Cash,” which affected their relationship. The failure of Shah Rukh Khan’s “Ra.One” emotionally broke him. He praised Shah Rukh as passionate and compassionate but acknowledged their limited future collaboration. The silence with Ajay Devgn lasts 18 years.

Anubhav Sinha, the filmmaker behind acclaimed movies like ‘Article 15’ and ‘Mulk’, recently revealed how early career challenges impacted him deeply. He spoke candidly about the commercial failures of Ajay Devgn’s ‘Cash’ and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Ra.One’, explaining that the disappointment from ‘Cash’ created friction with Ajay, while the failure of ‘Ra.One’ took a heavy emotional toll on him.

Anubhav Sinha on the emotional impact of Ra.One’s failure

In an appearance on the YouTube channel Ulta Chasma UC, Anubhav shared his experience, saying, “I meet a lot of people who now tell me they like Ra.One, but at that time, the film was declared a flop. There was a lot of pain after it flopped. I made a film with Shah Rukh Khan and it was a flop and people didn’t like it at that time. That film broke me emotionally. It took time for me to recover from that.”

Anubhav Sinha on admiring Shah Rukh Khan

Praising Shah Rukh Khan, Sinha said, “I was very fortunate that I was able to meet Shah Rukh Khan. I value him more than a star and an actor. Even if I don’t work with him ever, but I know him as a person and that is enough for me, you learn a lot from him. He is a very passionate, compassionate person. Despite all the stardom, he has a middle-class mind. You can learn all of these things from him. Of course, I would love to work with him, but I don’t have a story for him now and he also will not have time for me now.

Professional rift over ‘Cash’

Talking about how the failure of ‘Cash’ affected his working relationship with Ajay, the director said, “[Ajay Devgan] is an amazing person, but sometimes when a project fails, the team drifts apart. I made the worst film of my career with him – Cash. It was a really poor movie, and anyone involved has every right to be upset about it. It was a careless effort. After that film, Ajay and I parted ways, and we never got the opportunity to meet again. There’s no big story behind it.”

Cast of ‘Cash’ and long silence with Ajay Devgn

‘Cash’ featured Suniel Shetty, Esha Deol, Riteish Deshmukh, Zayed Khan, Shamita Shetty and Dia Mirza in the lead roles. In an old interview with Lallantop, Anubhav revealed that Devgn hasn’t spoken to him for 18 years. He explained, “We have never fought. He just doesn’t speak to me and I have no idea why. Since the making of Cash, we haven’t even met for me to tell you he ignored me or something. So, maybe, it’s just me overthinking. However, I did text him a couple of times, and never received a response, so I told myself that maybe it slipped his mind or he must have missed my message. But, it’s been about 18 years since we have spoken.” Despite the long silence, Anubhav holds no grudge and remains uncertain about the reason behind this distance.
