Doon’s eye surgeon takes charge as president of North Zone Ophthalmic Society of India

DEHRADUN: Senior ophthalmic surgeon, Dr Gaurav Luthra, has been appointed president of the North Zone Ophthalmic Society of India (NZOS), which represents ophthalmologists from Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir. The announcement was made during the society’s annual meeting held at Corbett National Park on October 11.In his address, Dr Luthra said he would focus on strengthening member engagement and promoting professional development. “Our aim is to make the society a stronger platform for collaboration, research, and continuous improvement in eye care,” he said.Dr Luthra earlier served as chairman of the NZOS scientific committee for four years, where he worked to improve the quality of scientific discussions and encourage participation from younger ophthalmologists. He has also been part of several national and international ophthalmic committees and has contributed to initiatives promoting innovation and access to new technologies in the field, a communique from his office said.“Under his leadership, the NZOS plans to expand opportunities for knowledge sharing and collaboration among its members, with an emphasis on improving access to advanced ophthalmic care across northern India,” the communique said.
